Mouline Rouge: Everything Expressed with Colors

On this passage from the movie Mouline Rouge we can see a stage show, a star, a powerful man in love and a whole audience full of what it seems rich people. But if we look deeper we see that that´s not all we´ve got. The colors used in this scene, make an amazing difference, from the Sun Yellos mixed with golden used at first, to the pale blues and silvers used later on. They are opposite colors but with a meaning.

At first, during the first seconds we find that the stage is made of a strong carmine difficult for anyone not to notice. During that epoque this color was related to kan kans, shows, and prostitutes of the area, thats why this color suits perfectly fine with the scene opening, when the courtain opens, when the show is about to start.

Everything about the show transport us to somewhere over in India, the singers, the dancers, the setting on the stage, but most of all the colors. In this section all the colors used are summer colors. Lemon and Sun yellows, Gum pink but also fuchsia, whish all these colors transmite either warmth or happiness, or both. It seems that someone using those colors can´t be unhappy or sad,. All these colors are alternated with golden accesories. This metal is always associated with the sun and with happines(since it´s said that money gives happines). Everytime we see gold or golden things in our society we associate it with anything but sadness or pesimistic adjectives.

Once the main star comes out the lightning changes. All the dancers and secondary actors are shown in a pale blue color, mixed with silver areas. It kind of reminds me to the moon and to one of those nights where the moon is big and shining and iluminates all the area I am in. Everything seems so fake, but so marvellous at the same time. Of course another idea for everyone but the main acctres to be in this color is to fushion them with the setting on the stage, to give them less importance and make the audience focus on that pale fuchsia figure that emerges from underneath the stage. Nicole Kidman is treated as the star in those colors, she is the queen of the stage, but it is also noticeable how fake everything is, how those colors don´t really exist anywhere in reallity. She is not healthy, so that might be another one of the reasons why she doesnt try to look better.

In this mosaic all those changes in the scene are represented: The background is divided in 2. The first half a colorful half with mostly warm colors such as Lemon yellow and Sun yellow but also colors like gum pink that even though they are not warm colors they always express happiness.qhen the figure comes out, the whole stage transforms into different shades of pale blue, sad pale gray and silver, simulating the night the cold and the night, also compared to the fakeness. The figure int he middle expressed in ladybug Red shows us the desired object, the person that the whole audience wants to see and have, but it also makes us think of her illness(tuberculosis) which is a sickness that makes the person vomit blood. Here we see how even the main stars of the time had sicknesses too.

As my picture i decided to take an indoor photo of a dead rose, simulatin the actress since roses are always pretty but like everyhting else, they also come to an end. the background of the picture simulates the setting at the stage, ho it is still pretty but not as pretty or nearly as important as our rose. The picture has been modified changing the color to a paler blue imitating that second part of the scene when Nicole Kidman, the Rose, comes out and how the whole stage looks around her.

My mocaic

My Mosaic is inspired by the movie Kill Bill.

Whe

n Uma Thurman we

nt to the air port, she said:” One ticket to Tokyo” and took the ticket. Then the movie scene focuses on a plane ticket where is a red arrow and a circle on it. Although this scene is very simple, I think it contain lots of information.

Red means danger and exciting, so I use red color to create the arrow and circle. It’s easy to understand that this trip will be very danger and exciting, most importantly, filled with blood.

At the start point of the arrow is a yellow spot, you can easily tell that this is Uma Thurman. Yellow is the main character of the heroine.

In the movie, there are lots of bad guys dressed in black and riding bikes. Bla

ck means bad and evil. So I put some black spots in the circle, which means there are lots of bad guys waiting in Tokyo. I think it’s a perfect expression of the scene.

There is a white spot surrounded by those black spots, that’s the boss. Although white usually means pure and kindhearted, but in this case, it makes people feel bad. I think the direct was trying to set off by contrast and succeed.

This picture is inspired by my mosaic.

As you see, I created my mosaic with lots of dots, and those dots are colorful. So, when these two things combine in my mind, the first thing came to me is m&ms.

They are round and cover with different colors.

In some ancles, they just looks like a beautiful mosaic.

About my mosaic ............by Hyun Jung Oh

I chose the third movie, What Dream May Come.
The reason why I chose this movie is because it impresses me.
While I watch this movie, I am about to cry. It is a sad movie. There are two main characters in the movie: a woman and a man. They love each other, so they get married. But few years later, a man dies. Even though, they can’t meet each other, they can feel love from each other.
In addition, another reason why I chose this movie is that there are various colors in this movie. Colors make me more impressed.
I put two main characters: a tree that she draws on the papers and purple leaves in my mosaic. The middle of red line is life line is life line; the left side is real life, which is woman lives in; and the right side is death life, which man lives in.
Even though they are living in a different world, they can contact each other by her picture. They can communicate with a purple tree. I am wondering why she draws purple tree instead of the other color. It is not a real color of tree. However, I realize that a purple color makes me sadder so it presents her sorrow.
I draw a purple tree at the middle and two people leaning on the tree on the each side.
The woman clothe color is white which means she is still alive; however, the man clothe color is black which means he is dead.
Last, I draw them holding their hands together because they can contact each other in that tree even though they are living in a different world.
Also, I draw red hearts on their bodies which man they love forever.
Red is symbol of love because it make us feel passion.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This picture is my boyfriend and i are holding hands together.
The reason why i take this picture, is our story and this movie story are same.
In this may ,we are seperated . Because i will go back to korea ,which is my country. But he will stay here forever.
It is a very sad story. So i choose gray color of background .
That means that sad feeling of seperation.
But in this picture,we are holding hands together.
It means even though we are in the different country, we can feel love each other.

My mosaic: What Dreams May Come

In my mosaic, I have six main colors to describe the most impressive scene in "What Dreams May Come" for me. First of all, I use "blue", "purple" and "brown" colors to represent the tree.

(1.) Tree(leaves): which was painted by Annie to build up a visible bridge of connection between her and her husband.

"Blue": represents the feeling of melancholy, sorrow and cool. (For Annie, it conveys the deep sorrow for losing her husband)

"Purple": represents the three main themes,

- loyalty: Annie loves Chris no matter what is he alive or dead. Her love is endless. Nothing can't change or destroy her love to her husband.

-sentimentality: She can't get rid of her despair and hopelessness from her husband's death.

-mystery: This couple is strongly connected with each other by the wife's painting. This supernatural phenomenon is just like a mystery. It's hard to understand what the reality in the clip is since the two main characters keep struggling between dream and real life, heaven and hell.

Therefore, I was trying to take pictures from maybe a purple and blue tree but I couldn't find it so I just take pictures from some purple and blue flowers to help me convey my feeling for the tree in the clip.

(2.) Red heart: love and passion

Then, I put "red" heart on the tree between the couple to represent not only the red cloak which we saw from the clip but also their strong affection to each other. It's also the symbol of " soul mate." Even the tree will fade away, the love won't disappear and it will keep in their mind forever and ever. That's the reason why my tree is composed of colors fragments because it's not real and it's also fading. However, the impregnable red heart won't be destroyed no matter what will happen in the future.

(3.) Main Character:

Chris- "Black" ; Annie-"White"

Although I use "black" color for Chris, and "white" color for Annie, the meaning which I try to convey from the two colors is opposite. Chris wears the black suit in the clip which represents the color of death. However, he is actually live in the heaven which we should give him the white color to be his symbol. On the contrary, Annie wears the white dress in the clip which represents "live " and "pure". However, her mind is longer pure as before. She has more negative thoughts and turn out to be close to the death and hell.

(4.) Background: Gray

Since their situation is between real life and dream, heaven and hell. It looks quite obscure and complicated so I just put some "gray" colors fragments in the background.
