Folk Art is an artistic painting, sculptures that are created to be beautiful or to express important ideas or feelings. It is usually produced by people without formal training.

Museum on the other hand is a building in which interesting and valuable things such as painting and sculptures, scientific or historical objects are collected and shown to the public.

Looking at the two definitions above,we can see that Folk Art and Museum are interwoven together. An artistic painting that are created to be beautiful (Folk Art) being kept in a place where valuable things such as painting (Museum) are collected and shown to the public.

In addition to the interwoven structure of Folk Art and Museum, Folk Art in a museum enables people to explore collections for inspiration, learning and enjoyment; it’s also a form of exhibition of ideas, beliefs, vision, or life. We learn from the past by looking at the artistic work done by people at the times as seen in Theora Hamblet and Gee Bends Quilt making.

Through museum, I was able to learn a lot from Theora Hamblet work, her work focuses on country side, religions and visions, I learn what her growing up days was like, what her house looks like (Hamblet hills) and the paintings of over the hill is home. Gee Bends quitters combine materials to form bold, abstract composition that reveals a genius for color and geometry. One look at Gee Bends gives one a sense of their originality and graphic impact. Gee Bends Quilt serves as an inspiration to other quilt makers around the world.

I don’t consider my piece of work as a Folk Art base on two reasons (1) Folk Art are beautifully made and attract readers to itself, Folk Art work make head turns to its direction because of its simplicity and the attractive power it has for example Theora Hamblet work of ‘Childrens game, our backyard, fishing from a boat’ to mention but few. This attractive power is what my own piece of work lack and that is why I believe it is not a Folk Art.(2) Folk Art work are not an imitation of ideas which my own work is but rather gotten through inspiration, vision,or what is happening around them at the time ‘snow scene with boys’ a work from Theora Hamblet is an example
